London Fire Brigade push for Amendment 3

After a recent report from London Fire Brigade there has been a new amendment added to the three-yearly update of the 17th Wiring Regulations for the domestic Consumer Unit. Amendment are made every three years and are expected to be announced in January 2015.
It is expected that the new regulation which will come into force in January 2015 will mean that all fuse boards fitted in UK homes will have to be made of fireproof material or be in a special fireproof box. While the Brigade is pleased with this expected change it is still concerned about the badly installed fuse boxes in London’s homes.
The draft of Amendment 3 proposes changes to the fire protection regulations in BS 7671 Wiring Regulations. If approved, these changes will be incorporated in the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, due to be published in January 2015. Chief Engineer Geoff Cronshaw interviews London Fire Brigade investigator Charlie Pugsley to find out more about the reasons behind these changes.
